Dubai is known for its ambitious modern architecture and its history as a pearl diving and trading hub. It is worth visiting to see how a global city functions in the desert, offering everything from traditional gold souks to some of the world's tallest buildings.
You might recognize the skyline first, but Dubai makes more sense when you walk through the old trading streets and the waterfront. The city feels less overwhelming if you focus on one district at a time instead of rushing between far-apart landmarks.
Starting in the older neighborhoods gives you a look at the local history before you head toward the newer developments. You can easily connect to other parts of the United Arab Emirates from here if you want to see more of the country beyond the city limits.
History, tips, best time to go and what to see.

Plan your visit
The most comfortable time to visit is from November through March. These months offer good conditions for walking through outdoor markets and spending time at the beach.
Plan for four to five days to see the main districts without rushing. This gives you enough time to explore both the historic Creek area and the newer developments toward the marina.
The Dubai Metro connects the airport to most major tourist hubs. For areas not served by the train, taxis and ride-hailing apps are widely available and easy to use.
