Abu Dhabi is worth a visit for its blend of traditional Gulf culture and massive modern projects. It is best known for the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, its growing arts district on Saadiyat Island, and the Al Ain oasis.
Abu Dhabi shows you two different sides of the United Arab Emirates. In the main city, you will see modern skyscrapers right next to traditional mosques and museums. If you head inland to Al Ain, the scenery changes completely to a desert oasis landscape.
You can plan your time here based on what you want to see most. You might spend a day looking at the architecture and religious sites, visiting the art museums, or learning about the city's early history. Each area gives you a different look at how the capital has grown.

Plan your visit
The most comfortable time to visit is from November through March. These months offer good weather for walking between sights and spending time outdoors.
Plan for three to four days to see the city highlights and the museums. Add two more days if you want to drive out to the desert or the historic sites in Al Ain.
Taxis and ride-hailing apps are the most common way to get around the city. There is also a public bus system that connects the main districts and nearby islands.
FAQs
Yes, alcohol is served in licensed venues such as hotels, restaurants, and bars. Visitors do not need a specific permit to consume alcohol in these designated areas, but public intoxication is strictly prohibited.
Abu Dhabi is generally considered very safe with a low crime rate. Women should dress modestly in public places, covering shoulders and knees, to respect local customs and avoid unwanted attention.
Visitors must wear loose-fitting, non-transparent clothing that covers the wrists and ankles. Women are required to cover their hair with a headscarf, which is usually provided at the entrance if needed.
Both cities offer different experiences, as Dubai focuses on shopping and entertainment while Abu Dhabi is quieter and focused on culture and government. Many travelers visit both since they are only about a 90-minute drive apart.
