Day 2 – Cairo – Giza Pyramids – Guardian Sphinx – Egyptian Museum of Antiquities

After breakfast, set out on your first guided tour to discover the Great Pyramids of Giza. Visit one of the seven miracles of the antiquated world: the Great Pyramids of Cheops, Chefren, and Mykerinus, alongside the well known Sphinx and Valley Temple. As you approach these architectural marvels, feel the thrill of glimpsing their ancient slopes through the gaps that stand between Cairo’s modern high rises. Stand in the shadows of the 481-foot Great Pyramid of Khufu—the largest structure in the complex.

Next, you’ll visit the vast, extraordinary monuments to the ancient Egyptians’ wealth and power – watched over by the enigmatic Sphinx. Another highlight will be the Egyptian Museum at Tahrir Square, with its magnificent treasures recovered from the tomb of the Boy King Tutankhamun. This outing presents the perfect introduction to the ancient sites you’ll explore along the Nile. After a full day of sightseeing, return to your hotel in Cairo.

Note: In late spring 2024, the Grand Egyptian Museum at Giza, containing many treasures of Tutankhamun, is expected to open. The tour will be adjusted to include the new museum when it is opened to the public.

Then, delve into the open-air temple complex dedicated to the revered ancient Egyptian deities, such as Amun. Conclude your day by visiting the illuminated Luxor temple itself, where towering columns and monumental statues are brought to life, showcasing the timeless grandeur of this historic site.

The Valley of the Kings contains 64 tombs and chambers ranging in size from a simple pit to a complex tomb with over 120 chambers. The amazing Temple of Queen Hatshepsut is widely considered one of the “incomparable monuments of ancient Egypt” located beneath the cliffs at Deir el Bahari. The Colossi of Memnon are two massive stone statues of Pharaoh Amenhotep III.
