What You Will See & Do

10-Day Cairo & Nile Cruise Itinerary

Day – 1 – Arrival in Cairo

Arrive at Cairo International Airport and transfer to your 5-star city center hotel for check-in and overnight stay. Cairo, with its roots reaching back to Pharaonic times, is the birthplace of some of history’s greatest civilizations.

Day 2 – Saqqara Necropolis and Dahshur Pyramids

After breakfast, begin your exploration of ancient Egypt at the Saqqara Necropolis, where you can observe the Step Pyramid of Djoser, declared a World Heritage Site in 1979. Explore the ancient structures, including the Pyramid of Teti, followed by a delicious lunch at a local restaurant. Head southwest to Dahshur Necropolis to visit the Bent Pyramid and Red Pyramid, unique pyramids built by Sneferu, Egypt’s first true king. In the afternoon, return to your hotel to spend the evening at your own leisure, or further your exploration with a visit to Giza.

Day 3 – Giza Pyramids, Sphinx, and Egyptian Museum

On today’s excursion you’ll discover the Great Pyramids of Giza, including the Great Pyramid of Khufu, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. As you approach, catch glimpses of these historic slopes amidst Cairo’s modern skyline. Next, observe the iconic Sphinx and visit Valley Temple.

Afterwards, head to the Egyptian Museum, home to the treasures of the young pharaoh Tutankhamen. Guided by your Egyptologist, this experience provides a perfect introduction to the historic sites you’ll explore along the Nile. After a fulfilling day, return to your Cairo hotel for a comfortable overnight stay.

Day 4 – Flight to Luxor, Karnak Complex, and Luxor Temple

Take an early transfer to the airport to board a short flight to Luxor, where you will embark on your Nile river cruise for the next 5 days. After settling into your accommodation on the cruise, set out for your first day of exploration in Luxor.

Observe the intricately etched columns of Karnak’s Great Hypostyle Hall, wander its courtyard and the granite statues of Ramses II (Ramses the Great), the Obelisks of Queen Hatshepsut and Tuthmosis III. Then, delve into the open-air temple complex dedicated to the revered ancient Egyptian deities, such as Amun. Conclude your day by visiting the illuminated Luxor temple itself, where towering columns and monumental statues are brought to life, showcasing the timeless grandeur of this historic site.

Day 5 – Hot Air Balloon, Valley of the Kings, and Edfu

Today’s early morning adventure takes you on an exhilarating hot air balloon ride over Luxor at sunrise. Afterwards, go on an excursion to explore the Valley of the Kings, Colossi of Memnon and Hatshepsut’s mortuary Temple. The Valley of the Kings contains 64 tombs and chambers ranging in size from a simple pit to a complex tomb with over 120 chambers. The amazing Temple of Queen Hatshepsut is widely considered one of the “incomparable monuments of ancient Egypt” located beneath the cliffs at Deir el Bahari. The Colossi of Memnon are two massive stone statues of Pharaoh Amenhotep III.

In the afternoon, you’ll return to your cruise ship and enjoy a leisurely dinner on board as you set sail for Edfu. This serves as the perfect setting to wind down, relax, and reflect on the incredible sights you’ve seen throughout the day.

Day 6 – Edfu Temple and Kom Ombo Temple

This morning you’ll visit the Edfu Temple; one of the best-preserved temples in Egypt dedicated to the falcon god Horus. After having some time to explore, you’ll head back on board and enjoy a relaxing lunch. You will then set sail towards Kom Ombo where later, you’ll explore the grounds of Sobek and Horus.

In the evening, onboard your Nile cruise ship, you’ll be treated to an unforgettable Egyptian Night Party. Embrace the spirit of the evening by donning a traditional Egyptian garment known as a Galabeya. The festivities will feature a vibrant blend of 60s and 70s dance tunes and traditional Arabian music.

Day 7 – Aswan Tour

Explore the Philae temple, an ancient sight pilgrimage for devotees of the goddess Isis. In the 1960s, the whole temple was moved to its current location on the Agilkia Island during the flooding caused by the construction of the Aswān dams. Visit the High Dam which was constructed between 1960 and 1970. Its aim was to increase the amount of hydroelectric power, regulate the flooding of the Nile and enhance agricultural productivity.

Optional tour: Visit to the Nubian Village in the afternoon.

Day 8 – Abu Simbel and Return to Cairo

Optional tour: You’ve got an opportunity to embark on an early morning excursion to marvel at the majestic Great Temples of Abu Simbel. Crafted by Ramses II and Nefertari, these awe-inspiring temples are renowned for their splendor and the remarkable feat of being relocated in 1968 to avoid submersion beneath Lake Nasser.

As it’s your last day on the Nile cruise, prepare to disembark and take a transfer to Aswan International Airport for your flight back to Cairo, where you will still have one more full-day of adventure in store the next day.

Day 9 – Alexandria excursion

Embark on a captivating full-day tour of Alexandria, a city steeped in history and culture. Begin your journey by descending into the depths of the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa, an ancient marvel blending Egyptian, Greek, and Roman influences. Explore the labyrinthine tunnels adorned with intricate carvings and discover the fascinating fusion of burial traditions from different eras.

Continue your exploration with a visit to Pompey’s Pillar, an imposing testament to Alexandria’s ancient grandeur. Marvel at the towering column, believed to be erected in honor of the Roman Emperor Diocletian, and ascend its steps for panoramic views of the city. Next, visit the immersive Alexandrina Bibliotheca, a beacon of knowledge and culture.
